Live quiz: both can score answers
Mentimeter's Quiz Competition uses timed questions, scores and a leaderboard inside a live presentation. You can write your own questions or start from a quiz template. It works well when the quiz is part of a presentation.
Unison starts with ready-made social quizzes and party games. The host runs rounds on a shared screen while guests answer on their phones. You can add your own quiz questions with Games or Events. Check the actual game format if you need a particular scoring style.
Polls, word clouds and Q&A
Choose Mentimeter when you want to present slides and collect responses during a talk, meeting or workshop. Its question slides include polls, word clouds, open answers and audience Q&A. Those questions do not score players like Quiz Competition slides do.
Unison focuses on hosted social games and event activities. If audience feedback or Q&A is the main event, Mentimeter's presentation tools are a closer fit.
Personal questions and more than one activity
Unison lets the host keep a quiz, year guesses in Year Off, search comparisons in Google Showdown, meme voting in Meme Match and emoji deduction in Odd Signal in one event room. Watch Your Words and Explain It offer spoken word play. Guests return to the same link when the host switches activities; bingo, predictions and missions can run between scheduled games.
Write your own quiz questions from Games. Guest questionnaires and games made from guest answers are included from Events. Review personal content before sharing it with guests.
Mentimeter also has editable quiz templates and lets you write questions about your group. Its main workflow is a sequence of presentation slides, so compare that with the event activities you plan to run.
How guests join and what the host needs
Unison guests open a link or scan a QR code in their phone browser without creating an account. The host needs an account and internet. Hosted games use a shared screen; music rounds also need sound.
Mentimeter participants can use a link, QR code or temporary code at menti.com. The host presents from a browser. Some organisation-managed presentations can require participants to sign in, so test the joining settings you plan to use.
Check limits in the right units
Mentimeter Free lists 50 participants per month and one unlimited-participant session per month. Paid plans remove the monthly participant allowance, but Quiz Competition slides have a separate 2,000-player limit. Check the current plan before a large event.
Plan allowances: Free — up to 10 players per session; Games — up to 100 players per session; Events — unlimited guests per event. Choose a game format that fits your group.
Mentimeter counts Free participants across the month. Unison Free and Games count players in each live session; Events has unlimited guests. Compare those measures against the people and sessions you expect to host.
